Bansko proved to be a leading resort and a tourist center not only due to its geographic location and natural beauties. The rich cultural and historic heritage, the traditions kept up to date and uniquely combined with the modern achievements give their significant contribution.

The puff of the past, the contribution of eminent people from our region may be most tangibly felt in the museums of Bansko.

Years on end several generations have restored and adapted old houses for expositions, have collected the scattered grains of history and deeds of their ancestors in order to make the existence of the today’s Museum Complex possible. The Museum Complex comprises eight sites administered by excellent specialists.

Museum Complex Bansko is the first of its kind within the national museum network. Optimally structured, it successfully achieves its task to search for, keep, study and present cultural values from across the region within the context of the all-Bulgarian development, especially for the National Revival and fights for liberation period. The rich ethnographic material and the results of the archeological excavations and studies have a valuable contribution to this end.

The museum work in our city is among the earliest of its kind within the district of Blagoevgrad. In terms of thematic scope, exposition area, diversity and efficiency of actions, Museum Complex Bansko takes its well deserved place among the leading municipal museums in the country preserving the memory and protecting the pride of Bansko.
